Disability Rights & Accessibility

Because We Shouldn't Be Held Back

Living with a disability herself, Stephanie has learned just how much harder life can be with a disability. Having been stripped of the opportunity to participate in events, programming, meetings and even struggling to get an education, Stephanie learned quickly that she was not alone.

After conducting some research, she realized that people with disabilities are an unheard population. This didn't sit well with her because she knew of so many stories (beyond her own) where people were not receiving the care and attention they were entitled to. She knew something had to be done.

Stephanie C. Márquez-Villafañe has been pushing for change, and is doing everything she can to see a brighter future for people living with disabilities. She has advocated for venue changes, sidewalk leveling, crosswalk fixes, safety measures to be put in place and/or updated, accessibility, among other things. She has also advocated against mistreatment, injustices, lack of resources and anything she comes across that negatively impacts the disability community.
